The main advantage of the hot forging hydraulic press is that the material enters at a lower rate inside the die and thus fill it in a more complete and accurated manner; in this way the follow-on machining works are minimised. Furthermore presses, when compared to the power hammers, can complete the whole job in one cycle (when having a constant force independently from the moving table position), thus allowing an increasing production rate.
With SPF (Super Plastic Forming) or Gas Forming are meant a certain number of techniques and methods for the superplastic materials forming. The following methods regard superplastic alloys and sheets metal: Blow and Vacuum Forming. Both cases are substantially the same process (sometimes also called stretch forming) where a gas pressure differential is applied to the SPF material, thus forcing the same to assume the shape of the die. In the Vacuum Forming the applied pressure is limited to the atmospheric pressure (thus the depression is larger as a function of the induced vacuum). The forming possibilities are thus limited. In the blow forming a supplementary pressure is applied by the use of an external tank. Typically, the exercise pressures go from a few up to hundred bars.
